Baby Cages

They were designed in a more innocent age and with the best of intentions.

With this wire enclosure, parents didn’t need to leave the house to give their children a healthy dose of sunshine and fresh air. The only problem was that the cage was suspended precariously off the side of a building.

The idea behind the cages was patented in America in 1922 as a means to help parents living in cities who didn't have much space. The cages were also distributed to members of the Chelsea Baby Club who lived in high buildings and had no gardens.

This incredible picture taken in the 1930s shows a baby suspended high up from their parents' window.
