The color of the twist tie on bread packaging means something

The color on the twist tie of your break package isn’t just there for looks. The color actually signifies which day of the week the bread was baked on.

The color is not for the customer but for the person stocking the shelf. It helps them determine which packets of bread are old and need to be removed from the shelf.

This way, employees don’t need to look closely at the tabs (which usually also show the “sell by” date); they can simply remove specific colors. Each manufacturer has their own color code.
