Walt Disney calculated that trash cans needed to be no more than 30 feet apart to minimize littering

Most trash cans are no more that 30 steps apart at Disneyland. 

Walt observed guests in other parks and averaged out how many steps a person would take with trash in their hand before dropping it.

This handy calculation coupled with the army of maintenance “cast member” in Disney parks makes them one of the cleanest theme parks in the world.
