Michael Jackson tried to buy Marvel Comics because he wanted to play Spider-Man

Marvel Comics is the media giant behind such famous comic book characters as Spider-Man, Thor, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Iron Man and Captain America. As such, the company has many fans. One particularly famous one is Michael Jackson, the late pop super star.

According to Marvel’s Chairman Emeritus and creator of many of the company’s iconic characters, Stan Lee, Michael Jackson even tried to buy Marvel Comics in the 1990s. Jackson was interested in playing Spider-Man in the film adaptation that eventually went to Toby Maguire.

Lee said that Jackson believed the only way for him to play Spider-Man would be if he bought Marvel and had control over the decision himself. Lee also noted that he thinks Jackson would have fared pretty well as Spider-Man but that the company probably wouldn’t have had the same success under Jackson because he was not the best businessman.
