Actor so convincing that a holocaust survivor shook in fear when she met him

Amon Goeth was an SS captain and commander of the Polish concentration camp in Plaszow during World War II. He is known for shooting camp internees for sport during the war and was tried for war crimes after World War II.

The Supreme National Tribunal of Poland found him guilty of killing tens of thousands of people and he was executed in 1946 at the age of 37.

Amon Goeth was played by Ralph Fiennes in Steven Spielberg’s Schindlers List. A survivor of the Plaszow concentration camp went to the set and met some of the people. Upon meeting Ralph Fiennes and seeing him in his scenes acting as Amon Goth, she began to shake uncontrollably.

She felt as if she were truly standing in front of Amon Goth, because that’s how convincing Fiennes was in the role. That is the best and worst compliment Ralph Fiennes has probably ever received.
