End of the world!

In 1806, a hen in England began laying eggs that had the phrase “Christ is coming” etched into the side. People heard the news and literally freaked out believing the world was about to end.

It turned out, not surprisingly, the owner of the chicken farm had taken previously laid eggs and etched the phrase into the side with acid and then reinserted them into the oviduct of the hens.

The hoax was eventually dubbed “The Prophet Hen of Leeds” and remains one of the most bizarre apocalypse hoaxes in history.
