The origin of the terms white and dark meat?

The terms "white meat" and "dark meat" come from the Victorian era when people were too embarrassed to use the words "leg" and "breast".

Victorians were a bit uptight to say the least. There were many taboos and words that were rude to use.

The words breast and leg were a bit of a taboo. So, to specify what part of the fowl they wanted to eat, such as chicken or turkey, they would say “dark meat” or “white meat.”
